Our Grandmother's Hands:
Repatriating Métis Material Art
Our Grandmother's Hands: Repatriating Métis Material Art features 3D digital renderings of 9 Métis material art pieces curated from Gregory Scofield's personal collection of Métis artifacts. The items were carefully curated based on the theme of 'Amelia Douglas' and includes items that he believed would befit a Métis family of Amelia's status and time period.

Gregory Scofield is a Métis artist, writer, and caretaker of Métis ancestral pieces, whose ancestry can be traced to the historic Métis community of Kinosota-Reedy Creek, Manitoba. The “Grandmothers”, as he refers to them, were photographed and rendered using special 3D software to provide viewers a more detailed look at the grandmother pieces beyond what a 2D photograph would provide. The exhibition is narrated by Métis Elder Marie Bercier. We encourage you to listen along to the narration as you explore the digital exhibition, to hear the stories of the grandmother pieces.

We extend our gratitude to Gregory and Marie for supporting this exhibition, and for allowing us to share these stunning Métis grandmother pieces.

If you would like to see more of Gregory's collection, visit the Gabriel Dumont Institute's website for a copy of his latest book Our Grandmother's Hands: Repatriating Métis Material Art.
