Métis Heritage Presentation

About
Join our talented storytellers for these virtual presentations on captivating aspects of Métis culture, heritage, and art. These bookable sessions are an opportunity for anyone to learn more about the Métis people – not as a lecture but as a story. You’ll see and hear our heritage, arts, and culture and, we hope, take them into your heart. In some cases, we can be available to deliver these presentations in person.

This presentation explores a pillar of Métis culture that is shaped by historic events including the fur trade, resistance, and displacement. The revitalization of traditional Métis arts and creating new methods of sharing culture and stories through clothing and self-decoration is a testament to the resilience of the Métis Nation. Niiyaanaan lii Michif Niwiikaanaan Aantor deu la Prayrii pi la Mayr – We are the Michif – We live Between the Prairies and the Ocean. This presentation shares the stories of two remarkable Métis leaders who journeyed from what is now Manitoba to make their homes in the Pacific region in the 19th century. You’ll also learn how the Amelia Douglas Institute for Métis Culture and Language is honouring these histories while celebrating and uplifting Métis culture in BC.
